In what was a whirlwind day, 16 amazing students from every slice of the United States descended upon New York City’s JFK airport to embark on a two-week cultural immersion journey to the Dominican Republic. Smiles and laughs were bountiful as students gave one last hug to family members, and before we knew it we were touching down in Santo Domingo. From the bus ride through the capital city’s colonial district, to the dizzying array of plantain preparations, and the merengue dance exhibition, everything has met and exceeded expectations.
After an unbelievably long travel day (or two, for some students!), the group is excited to be snug in bed at our hotel, getting some rest and relaxation before an action-packed week in our community service village. We look forward to sharing more of our exciting adventures soon!
